When Chinese-Korean panax ginseng is administered to anemic patients, it has been reported that subjective symptoms such as unpleasant dizziness, poor appetite, arthritis, thirst, palpitation and heavy feeling are gradually alleviated, even in patients in whom no appreciable decrease in anemia is observed. Particularly, the effects of ginseng in improving appetite suggest that ginseng strengthens the gastrointestinal functions. It is known that presently available blood making drugs for anemic patients frequently impair the gastrointestinal tract and cause various side effects. This was reported by Dr. S. Arichi in his paper "Clinical Application of Panax Gmseng". Dr. T. Hisayama and his co-workers in their paper "Clinical Experience in the Treatment of Advance Cancer With Ginsenosides" found that ginsenosides administration provide a restorative effect on leukocyte counts and the hemoglobin level of cancer patients exposed to large doses of radiation. Patients recovered from anemia, leukopenia and lymphopenia.
